This review covers the US-market 2027 Corolla sedan, gas and hybrid, using Toyota’s official Corolla model page, EPA ratings and crash-test results. The Corolla Hatchback and Corolla Cross are separate models. All prices exclude Toyota’s delivery, processing and handling fee.

Gas or Hybrid

Gas models use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and hybrids use a 1.8-liter engine with electric motors, according to EPA data. Only the hybrid offers all-wheel drive, through Toyota’s electronic on-demand system.

GradeStarting MSRPToyota est. city/hwy mpg
LE (gas)$23,32532/41
SE (gas)$25,76531/40

Hybrid SE$27,61550/43

The hybrid premium is the same $1,850 at both the LE and SE levels. At the top, a Hybrid XLE costs just $500 more than a gas XSE.

50 mpg for the Hybrid LE

The EPA rates front-drive Hybrid LE and XLE models at 50 mpg combined (4.7 L/100 km). The sportier Hybrid SE, which adds a Sport drive mode and 18-inch wheels, is rated at 47 mpg. All-wheel-drive hybrids land at 48 or 44 mpg.

Say you drive 12,000 miles a year. A gas Corolla at 35 mpg would use about 343 gallons, while a Hybrid LE at 50 mpg would use about 240, roughly 100 gallons less (our calculation).

Standard Tech by Grade

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every grade. Even the base LE gets an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The gas XSE and Hybrid XLE add a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and heated front seats. The Hybrid XLE also gets a power moonroof.

Which Corolla to Choose

The Hybrid LE is the value pick for most buyers. It costs $1,850 more than the gas LE but is rated at 50 mpg and offers all-wheel drive if you need it.

But does a gas Corolla still make sense? It can if you drive few miles each year, since the fuel savings take longer to cover the hybrid’s higher price.

This review covers the sedan only; the Corolla Hatchback and Corolla Cross have different prices, ratings and grades.

Prices, specifications, trims and availability vary by model year and market and can change at any time. Check the manufacturer’s official site or an authorized dealer before you buy.
