Katamereka Cars – The redesigned 2027 Telluride offers a hybrid for the first time. The gas model starts at $39,190 for the LX, and the hybrid starts at $46,490 for the EX, which costs $2,700 more than a gas EX with the same drivetrain.
This review covers the US-market 2027 Telluride and Telluride Hybrid, using Kia’s official pricing sheet, launch releases, EPA ratings and crash-test results. All prices exclude Kia’s $1,545 destination charge.
Gas Turbo or Hybrid
The gas Telluride now uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 274 hp (204 kW) and 311 lb-ft (422 Nm), paired with an 8-speed automatic. The hybrid adds electric motors and a 1.65-kWh battery for 329 hp (245 kW) and 339 lb-ft (460 Nm), with a 6-speed automatic.
The EPA rates the gas model at 22 mpg combined (10.7 L/100 km) with front-wheel drive and 20 mpg with all-wheel drive. Hybrids are rated at 33 mpg (7.1 L/100 km) with front drive and 31 with all-wheel drive. Kia says the hybrid EX FWD on 18-inch tires reaches 35 mpg.
Say you drive 12,000 miles a year. A gas Telluride FWD at 22 mpg would burn about 545 gallons, while a hybrid FWD at 33 mpg would use about 364, roughly 180 gallons less (our calculation).

Space and Towing
The Telluride seats seven or eight. Kia lists 22.3 cubic feet (631 liters) of cargo space behind the third row, 21.3 in the hybrid, and 86.9 cubic feet (2,461 liters) with the rear seats folded.
Gas models can tow up to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) when properly equipped, while the hybrid is rated for 4,500 pounds (2,041 kg).
Safety Ratings and Recalls
IIHS named the 2027 Telluride a 2026 Top Safety Pick+, with Good ratings in all three crash tests, but the award applies only to vehicles built after June 2026. Headlight ratings range from Good to Marginal depending on trim. NHTSA hadn’t rated the 2027 model when we checked.
NHTSA lists three recalls for the 2027 Telluride. Two involve seat belts: a third-row center buckle that may not latch and a driver’s belt that may lock and not extend. The third affects hybrid SX-Prestige models with the Executive Package, whose second-row power seats may not detect a person.
Kia advises owners of affected hybrids to keep children away from the second-row seats during power folding until the software is updated. All three repairs are free, so check the VIN at NHTSA’s recall lookup before buying.
Which Telluride to Choose
For most families, the hybrid EX FWD is the value pick. It costs $2,700 more than a gas EX FWD but is rated 11 mpg higher by the EPA, and it still tows 4,500 pounds.
Is the gas engine still worth considering? Yes, if you tow close to 5,000 pounds or want the off-road X-Pro, which comes only as a gas model.
Before you sign, check the build month on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb, since the Top Safety Pick+ award covers only Tellurides built after June 2026.
Prices, specifications, trims and availability vary by model year and market and can change at any time. Check the manufacturer’s official site or an authorized dealer before you buy.
