Katamereka Cars – Is the CR-V Hybrid worth the extra money? For 2027, the cheapest hybrid, the Sport 2WD, costs $36,030, which is $2,480 more than a gas EX with front-wheel drive. In return, the EPA rates it at 40 mpg combined versus 30 mpg for the gas model.
This review covers the US-market 2027 CR-V, based on Honda’s official pricing and EPA release, its specifications sheet and published crash-test results. All prices exclude Honda’s $1,550 destination charge.
Gas or Hybrid
The LX, EX and EX-L use a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 190 hp (142 kW) and 179 lb-ft (243 Nm), paired with a CVT. Every other trim is a hybrid, with a 2.0-liter engine and two electric motors making 204 hp (152 kW) combined.
The EPA rates gas models at 30 mpg combined (7.8 L/100 km) with front-wheel drive and 29 mpg with all-wheel drive. Front-drive hybrids get 40 mpg (5.9 L/100 km), all-wheel-drive hybrids 37 mpg, and the TrailSport 35 mpg.
Say you drive 12,000 miles a year. A gas LX 2WD would use about 400 gallons, while a Sport Hybrid 2WD would use about 300, roughly 100 gallons less (our calculation).
Trims and Prices
| Trim | Drive | MSRP | EPA combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| LX | 2WD / AWD | $31,520 / $33,020 | 30 / 29 mpg |
| EX | 2WD / AWD | $33,550 / $35,050 | 30 / 29 mpg |
| EX-L | 2WD / AWD | $35,800 / $37,300 | 30 / 29 mpg |
| Sport Hybrid | 2WD / AWD | $36,030 / $37,530 | 40 / 37 mpg |
| TrailSport Hybrid | AWD only | $39,200 | 35 mpg |
| Sport-L Hybrid | 2WD / AWD | $39,125 / $40,625 | 40 / 37 mpg |
| Sport Touring Hybrid | AWD only | $42,950 | 37 mpg |
All-wheel drive adds $1,500 wherever it’s optional. One detail stands out: a Sport Hybrid 2WD costs only $230 more than an EX-L 2WD, though the EX-L adds features such as front and rear parking sensors.
Honda Sensing, which includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, is standard. Blind-spot monitoring is not on the LX but comes on every other trim.
Space and Towing
Gas models offer 39.3 cubic feet (1,113 liters) of cargo space behind the rear seats. Hybrids give up a little, at 36.3 cubic feet (1,028 liters), and the Sport Touring has 34.7 cubic feet.

Towing is modest across the board. Honda rates gas models at 1,500 pounds (680 kg) and hybrids at 1,000 pounds (454 kg), so the CR-V suits a small utility trailer at most.
Safety Ratings and Crash Tests
NHTSA gives the 2027 CR-V, gas and hybrid, 5 stars overall, with 4 stars in the frontal crash test and 5 in the side test.
IIHS results are mixed. The 2027 CR-V earns Good ratings in the small overlap and updated side tests and for its headlights, but Poor in the updated moderate overlap test, which focuses on protecting rear-seat passengers. Its standard front crash prevention is rated Acceptable.
NHTSA’s recall database listed no recalls for the 2027 model when we checked. Run a VIN check anyway before taking delivery.
Which CR-V to Choose
For most buyers, the Sport Hybrid 2WD is the value pick: 40 mpg for $36,030, plus blind-spot monitoring that the base LX lacks.
Pick a gas EX or EX-L if you need the larger cargo area or plan to tow between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds. If rear-seat crash protection is a priority, compare the IIHS results of rival SUVs before deciding.
Check the IIHS page again before you buy, because ratings can change when a model is updated or retested.
Prices, specifications, trims and availability vary by model year and market and can change at any time. Check the manufacturer’s official site or an authorized dealer before you buy.
